WHAT DO MODELS EVEN EAT?

"But, like, what do you even eat?" "You must be on some crazy diet." "I could never be a model, I like food too much!""Does your agent tell you to starve yourself?" No other professional has their diet questioned quite like a model. As a model and a blogger, I feel it is my duty to clarify a few things. In this post I'm delving into the most mysterious marvels of modern times: A model's diet.

Measurements

Each market has different guidelines on what a models bust, waist, and hips should be. Now how does one maintain those measurements? For some girls, it is easy: they eat whatever and stay skinny. Other have to consistently kill in the gym and the kitchen to even hope of making the cut. I am in the latter.

What I Eat When Maintaining my measurements

When I was modelling in Italy I maintained a high protein, low carb diet similar to keto. I was pretty good at moderation, and did sometimes indulge in gelato after kicking ass at the gym. While food intake varied, I would usually stick to below 1000 calories a day. A bit extreme and definitely too low, but as they say: when in Rome (Or Milan.) Instead of tell you exactly what I ate, however, why not just show you?

A day in the life

Breakfast

For Breakfast, I would try not to have anything more than coffee. Most days I could survive until 2 or 3 in the afternoon without having anything. It felt nice to be totally empty when I started my castings. Nothing worse than a bloated belly trying to fit into a sample size designer dress. If I was absolutely famished, I would eat granola and yogurt, or hard boiled eggs, trying to keep portions small.

Lunch

Lunch consisted of salad with cheese, veggies, and eggs. I would attempt to limit my carbs, but when I was out at castings, I would sometimes have to grab a sandwich or some focaccia from a cafe. This was usually my first meal of the day, so I could be a bit naughty with some bread products. (That sounded less creepy in my head.)

Dinner

Dinner would be low carb and usually low calorie. Grilled veggies with pesto, tomato sauce, or cream sauce were a staple. Trying to remain under my limit, I would sometimes toss canned beans with some lettuce for a quick high protein bite. If I had consumed very little in the morning, or had one of my crazy three hour workout sessions, I would whip up a very bad, but oh so good, plate of pasta (because: Italy.)

Snacks

Small, lights snacks kept me going throughout the day. When I got home from the gym, my go-to was yogurt. Or if I was on the run, you'd bet you could find a few apples in my bag. Avocados, sweet potatoes and cheese were also some common things I would snack on if I had the time to run home and cook them (bless those days.)

So there you have it, I wasn't starving myself, but I still maintained a very whole foodsie, lower calorie diet. There were times of hunger that I pushed through, moments of weakness that left me downing packets of cookies, and instances of complete and total balance. It wasn't easy and I definitely only follow this strictly when I really need to keep my measurements down. Anytime I had doubts, I tried to remember that most Victoria's Secret models praise the low-carb diet. So, if it's good enough for Candice and Behati, it's good enough for me.
