6 Workout Tips You Need to Hear
Working out is one of those mysterious wonders of the world. For starters, the only way to lose weight is cardio, right? It's amazing just how commonplace this thought is. And how wrong it is. While it is true many models hit the gym on the reg, just that alone does not lead to their slender frame. While working out can be beneficial, it is important to get your diet in check first. Diet accounts for 80% of weight loss, so if you're a beginner, figure your shit out in that department before embarking on a crazy exercise plan.
Now that that has been said, I will try my best to provide the explanations behind my click-baitey title, using things I've learned on my fitness journey.
1. First things First, Walk Everywhere
One of the reason New Yorkers are so skinny (and live longer) is they walk everywhere. Making walking a part of your everyday routine will give you results. Have class that's a five minute drive away? Take the twenty extra minutes to walk there. Going to a friends house, bust that booty. Have extra time to get to a casting, get off a few stops early and walk the rest of the way. As long as you have a cup of coffee and headphones, walking everywhere will be an easy way to incorporate fitness into your life.
2. Food is not a reward for exercising
If you'd just saved up $50, would you go buy something that is $100? No, you wouldn't (hopefully.) The same can be said for working out. Once you put in the work, don't blow all those calories burned for the sake of a high fat muffin. A good rule of thumb is if you're hungry after a workout, have a clean snack with protein. Eggs, beans, and peanut butter with apples are all good options.
3. Have a plan and stick to it
At the start, it can be hard to get into a workout rhythm. One way to encourage yourself to hit the gym, pavement, thigh master (no judgments) is to make it seem like any other appointment. If you had a casting at 1 for Moschino, you wouldn't skip out, the same rule now applies for the treadmill. If you need assistance (or loath the gym), check out my favourite Youtuber Blogilates. She has a month long schedule that I've put below where you can click to read more. This way you don't need to worry about getting hit on at the gym, while still working towards that perfect ass.
4. Combine cardio with resistance training
All those Victoria Secret models posting their workout videos usually are doing the same sort of thing. High intensity cardio, and strength training using either body weight or resistance bands. Get both in one workout with an overly priced boxing or ballet class. Or, if you're cheap like me, stick to Youtube. My favourite videos are below.
5. Don't do too much too soon
When I was preparing for my first contract, I went a little... well, cray cray. I was working out like crazy, pushing my body to the max, and then I got injured. It's easy to think working out as much as possible is the quickest way to see results, but it is also the quickest way to end up like I was. Start with a plan that you can manage and that you will stick to.
6. Compare yourself to no one
Picture this: you start hitting the iron, get into a routine, and you start seeing yourself as a fitness goddess. And then instagram happens. All day everyday, thousand of models, insta-"models", and laxative tea ambassadors bombard your feed with their shockingly beautiful bodies. Some things you need to consider before crawling into the self consciousness pit of shame is a) personal trainers exist, b) photoshop exists, and c) genetic lotteries exist, and these people won them. There's no point wallowing and trying to be just like these online psuedo-celebrities by following x routine and y diet. Just continue kicking as much ass as you can, remember you are, in fact, a goddess, and keep working that freak thang.
